Cybersecurity

Greece has recognized the need to strengthen cybersecurity, designing targeted projects with emphasis on the principle of "security by design & by default" and a holistic approach to the issue. Indicatively, Law no. 4961/2022 on emerging technologies and strengthening digital governance. At the same time, it is noted that the increased reliance on digitisation also increases the surface area for attacks. In this context, a national strategy and a National Cyber Security Operations Centre have been established. IPv6, DNSSEC, HTTPS protocols and secure browsing policies (such as HSTS, CSP, Referrer Policy, etc.) are set as technological priorities. The NIS2 Directive (Law 5160/2024) has also been successfully implemented, accompanied by additional measures to strengthen cybersecurity in the country.

Challenges

The heterogeneity of existing information systems and protocols, as well as the continuous introduction of new and emerging technologies, increase the complexity of creating a coherent framework for their protection and control

The exponential increase in the number of devices connected to the Internet is expected to increase the 'surface area' on which an attack can potentially take place

The implementation of cybersecurity actions must be carried out with due regard for the protection of personal data (GDPR rules)

Goal 1

Strengthening the country's cybersecurity

Goal 2

Strengthening resilience of digital state to ensure uninterrupted delivery of modern services and protection of individual rights in cyberspace
