Policies and actions in the infrastructure and transport sector focus on tackling shortcomings immediately and upgrading the digitisation and security of networks. Interventions are foreseen in road, rail, port, air, flood protection, building and irrigation projects, with an emphasis on investment in land reclamation infrastructure due to increased water demand and prolonged drought. At the same time, with a view to a green transition, the first installations of electric vehicle chargers have been launched at the SEAs of the main axes, while the network is expected to be extended nationwide. The sector is also supported by initiatives such as the "Connected Motorways" and the "Improvement, maintenance and modernisation of road infrastructure" and "Development of smart infrastructure" actions in the Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology's TPA 2021 2025, as well as by the "Digital transformation of the HRO (OΣΕ)" under the NRRP (ΕΣΑΑ).
Addressing technological difficulties with continuous infrastructure upgrades and dedicated staff to avoid delays and incompatibilities with legacy systems.
Unifying diversity, where common standards, infrastructure, platforms and governance frameworks should be agreed to achieve interoperability and homogeneous operation.
Ensuring security and privacy, with citizen data protection, network resilience to digital attacks, and the ability to protect citizens' data.
Adopting strict security protocols and compliance with the GDPR framework
Managing social impacts as far as the development of major infrastructure projects are concerned, which should be accompanied by consultation with local communities and measures to reduce social and environmental burdens.
