In recent years, Greece has made significant efforts in the digital transformation of the education sector, aiming to upgrade infrastructure and improve educational processes. In 2024, more than 177,000 robotics kits and 36,000 interactive systems will be delivered to schools across the country, enhancing digital education. At the same time, Greece has upgraded school connections, with 60% of schools having a 50-100Mbps VDSL connection and the rest being connected to fibre-optic networks with speeds above 100Mbps. Through initiatives by the Ministry of Education, the majority of teachers have already been trained in basic digital skills, with 75,000 teachers having attended training programmes on the application of digital technologies in teaching. The €364.9 million "Digital Transformation and Digitisation of Education" investment and the €163 million "Digital Care" action are strengthening the digital infrastructure of schools and access to technological equipment for teachers and students. Important actions include free use of video conferencing, training of teachers in distance learning and upgrading of electronic equipment in schools.
Inequality of access: There are significant inequalities in access to digital technologies and education, which can exacerbate social inequalities.
Data security concerns: protecting the personal data of students and teachers is a major challenge in digital education.
Digital divide: The digital divide may reinforce existing inequalities and create new ones, limiting educational opportunities for specific groups.
Shortcomings in teacher training: Continuous training of teachers and trainers in new technologies and digital tools is essential for their successful integration into the educational process.
Inadequate infrastructure: School infrastructures are not always ready to support the transition to digital education with the necessary technology and support.
